Polliwog’s Pond was my very first blog. It ran from April 1, 2007 until April 1, 2008. It was a practice blog and my introduction to things like memes, technorati, wordpress, plugins, css, and spam!
I enjoyed using the blog to promote other bloggers and their work. At the peak of the blog’s life, it was receiving about 5000 visits a day and was rated a 5 on the Google PageRank scale. It got many wonderful comments by friends and fellow bloggers. Sadly, when I archived the blog and moved it here, all the comments were lost and did not transfer in due to an error I made with a comments plugin I was using. The comments remain in my head and heart, however and I will never forget!
Q: Why Polliwog’s Pond?
A: My dad nicknamed me “Polliwog” the day I was born. He still calls me that to this day and since he is the only one that calls me that, it’s very special to me. I used that name as my online persona for years so it made sense to use it in my first blog as well.
Q: Why did you retire Polliwog’s Pond and leave the blogosphere for awhile?
A: My blog was hacked around Christmas of 2007, right about the time I had a falling out with a very close friend (whose blog I also worked on), and my blogging spirit left me. I tried to get it back, but decided to leave the blogosphere and try to heal from some personal issues that were also taking all my time right about then. I had my kids blogging there for a bit, but they never got the bug like I did and I decided to close it down permanently in spring of 2008.
Q: What are your fondest memories during the time you blogged at Polliwog’s Pond?
A: I would say the friends I made. My first blogging friends are people still very special to me. Some no longer have blogs but they remain in my heart and I hope they come back soon too! The list below features some of the people who commented on my very posts and stuck with me. I’m grateful for their support, help, and friendship.
- Ed of The Tech Pisstakers
- Mike of Things By Mike
- Christy of Christy’s Coffee Break
- Rose of World Outside My Window
- Linda of Raven’s Range
Q: Can we still read the archives of the posts you wrote at Polliwog’s Pond?
A: Yes! Most (abut 85%) of the archives have been transferred here to the new domain — Paula’s Playground — for round #2 of my blogging life. I left out a few memes and link lists that were no longer active or relevant, and some contest posts. Everything else is here in their entirety in the archives. If you have linked to an old post, please use the search box on the front page to find the new URL for it. Sadly, because of an error I made with a comments plugin, I lost ALL the comments archives when I moved all the posts here to the new domain name. So older posts look like they have no comments when in fact most had many. It upsets me greatly, but I’d rather the posts be up without comments that not there at all so I made the decision to put them back anyway.
